Irons Brings Home Caribbean Gold!

90KG Champion Earns Caribbean Respect Bridgetown, Barbados– Jabari Irons of the United States pushed 3X Pan-American Champion Yurieski Torreblanca of Cuba to the brink in the Grand Championship semi-finals, but Torreblanca  scored a late point that propelled him to victory, setting up a finals match with last year’s Barbados Open Grand Champion Charlie Bowing (80kg) of England. In the end Torreblanca showed why he is one of the top wrestlers in the world, winning 3-0 over Bolwing to take home the Grand Championship for this year’s Open. 70KG was won by home crowd favorite Kwami Inniss of Barbados won a very tough 70kg bracket by virtue of a spectacular three pointer against Shiaeine Blake of Jamaica. World Beach Games are on the Line in Final Qualifier This story is from Gary Abbott at USA Wrestling– The final stop on the road to Bali for the 2023 ANOC World Beach Games is set for this weekend, and the stakes are high for the five U.S. athletes competing this weekend. The USA will field a small but experienced team for the second United World Wrestling Beach World Series event of 2023, set for Singapore, June 10-11. The Final Qualifying Event for Bali One Month Away Buenos Aires- With four of the five qualifying events completed, athletes from the United States are currently positioned high enough in the standings to potentially qualify at five weight classes for the World Beach Games in Bali, Indonesia, August 6-12, 2023. The qualifying standings for the World Beach Games include the last three Beach World Series events of 2022 (held in France, Greece and Romania) and the first 2023 Beach World Series event in Buenos Aires, Argentina held last week.
