Double Gold Performances Cap Pan Am Championships
Panama City, Panama- Two U17 ladies put Jordan Burrough’s “All I See Is Gold” motto into practice over the weekend at the U17 Pan American Championships. Aubree Gutierrez and Matilda Hruby both came home with double gold, winning both the freestyle and beach wrestling competitions. Winning half of the contested weights demonstrated the continued strength of women’s beach wrestling in the United States.
On the men’s side, Ryder Schulte and Talon Worden both brought home medals in the 90kg category. Worden was leading 2-0 over eventual champion Jose Esparza Ordonez of Mexico with under ten seconds remaining in his semi-final bout. Ordonez dialed up a double leg attack against Worden that was ruled a three point takedown. The call was challenged but upheld, leaving Worden to settle for the bronze medal.
Ryder Schulte scored dominant wins over athletes from Peru and Chile to earn his way to the finals where he fell to Ordonez 3-0.
Overall the US squad of seven athletes added four medals to the medal haul for the United States. For a full recap of the competition CLICK HERE for more from USA Wrestling.
