For the second year in a row, the Beach Wrestling Tour of America has been part of the “Fargo Experience”, with turnout and interest increasing substantially from year one.

This year’s showcase kicked off on Friday night with athletes from the local North Dakota teams and a smattering of other states competing in 8U-14U and Senior/ Masters division competition. Tech Team wrestling club was the star of the show, with twenty athletes competing.

16U and Junior women combined for competition on Sunday afternoon with triple the number of entries from last years event inaugural event. Arizona was the class of the competition, entering an outstanding twenty-six athletes and walking away with team honors.

The men’s competition took place on Thursday morning, with North Carolina leading the field with sixteen athletes. A new feature introduced on Thursday featured the Marine Corp Challenge “King of the Ring” competition. Virginia’s Kingley Menifee was the winner, with fourteen consecutive takedowns.

In addition to the growth on the competitor side, both officials and medical staff from the Freestyle/Greco-Roman events were well represented, as more officials and medical leaders sought to expand their knowledge and comfort with the growing style. With beach wrestling’s inclusion in the Olympics a real possibility, more leaders than ever are beginning to tune in to find out what the emerging style is all about.
