US Men’s Squad Kicks Off 2025 Season With First Ever Team Title!
Queretaro, Mexico- Team USA Men kicked off the 2025 beach wrestling season in spectacular fashion, bringing home the United State’s first ever senior level team title in the style.
Coach Tim Box and his squad entered riding a wave of momentum from last year’s tour, and they picked right up where they left off with a strong performance against the continent’s best. Three Americans earned silver medals in their respective weight classes, smashing their way to the finals in dominant fashion.
Justin Benjamin got the action started with four strong wins in the 70kg category, losing a hard fought 2-2 criteria decision to Augustin Destribats of Argentina, a 2020 Olympian.
Tyson Beauperthuy, who also competed in the U23 Pan American Greco-Championships just days before, picked up a siver medal by dominating his first four opponents. His 3-2 loss to Steven Rodriguez Torreyes of Venezuela in the finals was Beauperthuy’s only blemish on an otherwise dominate showing.
Kyle Ferriter rounded out the medals for Team USA with a heart stopping win in the semi-finals over Ulises Sanchez Robles of Mexico and a tough 1-0 loss to Jose Diaz Robertti of Venezuela, a 2016 Olympian in men’s freestyle.
The US Men totaled 60 team points for their efforts, edging host Mexico by five points to secure the team title.
Coach Box said of the effort, “Our guys fought hard and won the small battles, which led to big success”. Team USA is expected to take a similarly strong team back to Mexico in May for the 1st stop on the 2025 Beach Wrestling World Series Tour. Meanwhile, many other talented US wrestlers will take to the sand in Carolina Beach, NC for the 2025 US Beach Nationals, being held the same weekend.
