US Nets Three Medals At University World Beach Games
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil– U.S. Beach Wrestling athletes returned from Rio with a handsome haul of hardware from the 2024 FISU University World Beach Games. Tyson Beauperthuy lead the way, earning a gold medal in the 90KG weight class. Beauperthuy finished the competition 3-0, with a win over Brazilian Thales Reis Alves in the final round to secure his first place finish. Wayne Lamont dropped a heartbreaking first round bout to Brazil’s Elivaldo Costa, but rebounded with two strong wins including a final round victory over Argentina’s Maximo Cabrera to earn a silver medal for the US squad.
Rounding out the medals for the United States was Ketelyn Lewis in the women’s 70kg division. Lewis defeated Mayra Fantin of Brazil in her Bronze medal match, bringing the total medal count for the United States to three.
Next up for the United States is the U17 and U20 World Championships, taking place along side the fourth stop of the senior World Series in Katerini, Greece September 18-21. CLICK HERE to see full results from the FISU University Games.
