How to Represent Team USA in this year’s International Beach Wrestling Events
Colorado Springs, CO.- USA Wrestling’s board of directors have approved the selection criteria for this year’s international beach wrestling events. The board met during the recent U.S. Open to discuss the growth of beach wrestling and make provisions for world team selection. Here are the current procedures:
2024 BEACH WRESTLING TEAMS PROCEDURES
2024 U17 AND U20 BEACH WORLD TEAM SELECTION
The qualifying event for the 2024 U.S. Beach World Teams competing in the U17 and U20 Beach World Championships will be the Carolina Beach Nationals in Carolina Beach, N.C., May 11, 2024.
There are up to three spots in each weight class for the USA team at the U17 Beach Worlds and the U20 Beach Worlds.
The team selection priority will be the following for each event:
1. Top four placement at the specific weight class at the 2024 Carolina Beach Nationals, based upon finish. 2. Past U17 or U20 World medalists and past U17 or U20 Pan American medalists
3. Participation at the 2024 Carolina Beach Nationals
4. Open to the general public to athletes that meet age-group and eligibility requirements on a first-come, first served basis
2024 SENIOR WORLD SERIES EVENTS
The United States can enter up to three athletes at the 2024 UWW Senior Beach World Series events. These procedures will be used for the final three UWW Beach World Series events in 2024 on the following dates: • July 20-21 Timasoara, Romania
• September 21-22 Katerini-Pierra, Greece
• October 12-13 Beach World Series Final, Site TBA
The two qualifying events for 2024 U.S. Beach World Series teams be the Carolina Beach Nationals in Carolina Beach, N.C., May 11, 2024 and the 2024 Beach Wrestling National Championships in Huntington Beach, Calif.
The format of the two qualifiers will be a double elimination bracket, with placement of the top four athletes. The championship finals in each weight class will be a best-of-three series.
Athletes who meet the following standards will sit out until the quarterfinals of the tournament in the bottom bracket:
1) Athletes who placed in the top three in the final rankings from the 2023 Beach World Series at the specific weight class
2) Athletes who won a medal (top three) at any 2023 Beach World Series event
3) Athletes who were 2023 Senior Pan American Beach Wrestling champions
There are up to three spots in each weight class for the USA team at each Beach World Series event.
The team selection priority will be the following for each event:
1. Top three placement at the specific weight class at either the 2024 Carolina Beach Nationals or the 2024 Beach Wrestling National Championships, based upon finish.
2. If there are two athletes with the same placement at the two qualifying events seeking the final berth on the team, a selection committee will select the team member, based upon past results in international and domestic Beach wrestling events.
3. Athletes who placed in the top three in the final rankings from the 2023 Beach World Series at the specific weight class
4. Athletes who won a medal (top three) at any 2023 Beach World Series event
5. Athletes who were 2023 Senior Pan American Beach Wrestling champions
6. Athletes who have competed in two or more Beach World Series events.
7. Open to the general public to athletes that meet age-group and eligibility requirements on a first-come, first served basis
