1st Ever Midwest Beach Duals adds new element to Event
Sunrise Beach, MO– Who needs a script when you have a dual meet that’s tied with only two bouts to go? That was exactly the situation at Saturday’s first ever Midwest Beach Duals event, held alongside the Midwest Beach Nationals.
Ron’s All-Star Rouge Ringer’s , led by Hall of Fame Missouri coach Wes Roper faced off against Coach Marcus Cobb and his Cobb Strong Beach Bears in the first bout. The All-Stars tied the match on a strong performance from Adam Hageman at 165lbs. Morgan Lehman then picked up a hard fought 5-2 victory for the All-Starts at 185, leaving and the Sand Tigers Hwt Bryor Newbold knowing he needed to go big to overcome the 51-48 deficit. Newbold left no doubt with a highlight throw that was arguably the throw of the day for the entire tournament, and picked up an 8-0 win in the process. The dramatic victory secured the win for the Bears and allowed them to advance to face off with the Missouri Sand Tigers, coached by Ty Loethen in the finale.
The match between Loethen’s Sand Tigers and Cobb’s Bears was a back and forth match, with the Sand Tigers finally pulling away at the end to score a 52-48 victory and claim the first ever Midwest Beach Nationals Team title.
“Beach Duals are definitely and exciting addition to our event”, said organizer and founder Austin Roper. “Everyone was cheering and supporting each other. The teams really put on a great show for everyone.”
