Porter and Evans Highlight Growing Youth Movement in Beach Wrestling
LIMA, PERU- Team USA LIMA, PERU- Team USA’s Dominic Porter earned a gold medal i and Sadie Evansa picked up a silver medal to cap the U20 Pan American Championships held at Complejo Panamericano Costa Verde.
Porter was 4th in last year’s World Championships, and is looking to move up the podium at this year’s championships in Katereni, Greece this September. Evans also has prior world level experience, including competing earlier this year in the senior women’s division at the Beach Wrestling World Series. The addition of beach wrestling to the Pan American programs at all age levels including U15, U17, and U20, has opened new doors of opportunity for USA Wrestling’s emerging beach talent, and the explosion of interest from these age groups is a sign that the US is serious about succeeding in the emerging style.
The upcoming 2026 Youth Olympic Games are also fueling interest, as Beach wrestling will be the only style of wrestling competed next summer in Dakar, Senegal.
With the summer domestic schedule heating up, there are still many great opportunities for athletes in these age groups to get in on the excitement surrounding this emerging discipline. The USA Beach Wrestling Tour of America has stops coming up in Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri, Louisville, Kentucky, Virginia Beach, VA, Nashville, TN, Corpus Christi, TX, and many more. Many of the nation’s best will be making the trek to Huntington Beach, California August 16th for the USA Wrestling California Beach Nationals, which is one of the two main qualifying events for the US National Team.
