Beach Wrestling To Be Featured Style For Youth Olympic Games
CASABLANCA, Morocco- Preparation is well underway for a historic stop on the UWW Beach Wrestling World Series. Morocco will play host to the next stop in the 2025 series, and Alexandria, Egypt will host the season finale later in October, marking the first time ever two series stops have landed in Africa in the same season.
The emphasis on African wrestling isn’t an accident. It is all part of the UWW strategic plan to reinforce wrestling’s presence on the African continent. It also paves the way for next summer’s 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal, where beach wrestling will be the only style of wrestling featured on the program.
The increasing popularity of beach wrestling around the globe is elevating the conversation about the style’s place in not just the youth Olympics, but perhaps the 2032 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia and beyond. Could beach wrestling become a similar force for the growth of wrestling globally, much the way beach volleyball has reinvigorated that sport worldwide? More and more wrestling leaders are recognizing this possibility, and joining the movement towards increased investment and emphasis on the fast paced and fast growing style.
